Legislation was introduced into the Northern Territory Parliament yesterday which will see the community better protected from sex offenders.
The Serious Sex Offenders Act 2013 will enable the Supreme Court to place orders on serious sex offenders that would see them remain in gaol, or if they are released, be under continuous supervision.
The decision would be based on a per case basis and would be applied where there is an unacceptable risk that an offender will commit another serious sex crime.
